Earlston High School Information for Primary 7 Pupils and Parents

Exerts from letter from Earlston High to Primary 7 Parents

Earlston High School logoStarting at High School is something to look forward to. It is a big step but first year pupils usually settle very quickly. For several years, teachers from the primary schools have been working with teachers from Earlston High School to help make the change from primary courses to secondary courses as smooth as possible.

Earlston High Guidance teachers visit primary schools in the spring term to meet teachers, and in May they will visit primary schools to meet with P7 pupils. They will tell them about secondary school and will answer questions. They will give each pupil a pack which will contain a school prospectus, and enrolment form and an order form for school uniform items.

P7 pupils will spend two days in Earlston High in June. They will follow a timetable designed to let them visit several departments and meet some of their teachers.

Parents of P7 pupils will have an evening visit to the school. The evening will include a tour of the school and you will meet the Management Team and the Guidance Team. In addition to this visit, there will be an "information evening" in May when you will have the chance to ask any questions arising from the prospectus, etc. You will receive invitations to these at a later date.

Pupils have been studying French in P7. All pupils will continue the study of French at High School but will also be introduced to German at the end of S1. By S3, pupils will be able to choose French or German or both subjects.

The work in P7 is a very important preparation for High School and the Primary 7 teachers give us reports on how each pupil has been working as well as examples of pupils' work.

The teachers and pupils at Earlston are looking forward to welcoming their "new first year" and to meeting their parents. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the school, please let the Earlston High or Melrose Primary staff know and we shall be pleased to help.
